The Louvre

A palace that swallowed an empire's art.

The Louvre

Once a fortress, then a royal palace, the Louvre became a museum when the Revolution decided the king's paintings belonged to everyone. It now holds so much that no one sees all of it in one visit — pick three or four things you actually want to stand in front of, and let the rest wait for next time.
